Seiko Prospex Night Speedtimer Solar Chronograph

The Seiko Prospex Night Speedtimer brings together Seiko’s Speedtimer sports-timing heritage with the distinctive all-black aesthetic of the Prospex Black Series.

The model is officially designated SSC917P1 and is inspired by the view through a night scope. Its design combines a dark case and dial with specially developed green Lumibrite Pro on the hands and markers, helping maintain clear visibility in low-light environments.

Black Series Night-Scope Design

The Night Speedtimer forms part of Seiko’s Prospex Black Series. Rather than simply using a dark color scheme, the design focuses on readability in darkness.

The green Lumibrite Pro treatment provides a consistent luminous appearance in both light and dark conditions. This gives the watch a distinctive technical character while supporting the practical legibility expected from the Prospex collection.

V192 Solar Movement

At the heart of the Seiko Prospex Night Speedtimer is Seiko’s V192 solar movement. The movement is powered by light, eliminating the need for routine battery replacement under normal operating conditions.

The V192 provides a chronograph capable of measuring up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second increments. It also includes a 24-hour indicator, small seconds, date display, and power-reserve indicator.

When fully charged, Seiko specifies approximately six months of operation without exposure to light. Accuracy is rated at approximately ±15 seconds per month.

Speedtimer Chronograph Heritage

The Speedtimer name has strong historical significance within Seiko’s sports-timing heritage. Seiko introduced its original Speedtimer in 1969, and the modern solar chronograph collection carries forward elements of that design and timing philosophy.

The Night Speedtimer combines that heritage with a modern black-series aesthetic, making it particularly appealing to enthusiasts who enjoy technical sports watches with a strong motorsport-inspired chronograph character.

Sapphire Crystal
